Background

There are four direct seawater cooled chillers producing 4000TR cooling power in a building

Chlorine is used to minimize the development of biological fouling caused by the growth of micro-organism and macro-organism. However its concentration is governed by rules due to the harmful effect imposed to the water environment. As a result the biological fouling problem cannot be eliminated.

Automatic Tube Cleaning system are installed, however the effectiveness and demand to maintenance led to the final shut down and replaced by AquaKLEAR.

To demonstrate the effect of biofilm removal, AquaKLEAR is installed. Before the unit was switched on, the codenser tube of one chiller was inspected and recorded in picture 1. Then the tubes were cleaned.

Result

After six months of operation across the hot summer time, the condenser cover of the chiller was dismantled for tube inspection again. Tubes were as clean as they were just cleaned six months ago.
